LE MARS, Iowa - Dena Jacobs, 84, of Le Mars died Thursday, Jan. 29, 1998, at the Brentwood Good Samaritan Center in Le Mars.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. John Lutheran Church, Preston Township, with the Rev. William Kallestad officiating. Burial will be in St. John Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars.
Mrs. Jacobs was born July 10, 1913, in rural Preston Township, the daughter of Gerhard and Meta (Martfeld) Wilken. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith. She attended country school.
She married Gerhard Jacobs on Oct. 9, 1930, in Preston Township. The couple farmed for many years and then moved to Le Mars in 1964. She was employed with Brentwood Good Samaritan Center for 12 years, retiring in 1980.
She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church, St. John Lutheran Circle and sung in the choir. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting and playing cards.
Survivors include her husband; two sons and their wives, Orlan and Karen of Le Mars and Stanley and LeJoyce of Akron; a daughter and her husband, Margaret and Dave Sitzmann of Le Mars; 11 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Freida McAnich of Le Mars.
She was preceded in death by five sisters, Kate Siebens, Hannah Grasz, Margaret Wilken, Edna Wilken and Minnie Gabel; and two brothers, John "Jack" and Art Wilken.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Shane, Kelly, Jamie, Scott and Kevin Jacobs and Zachary Sitzmann.~Sioux City Journal of 01 February 1998
