Viola Hoefling

LE MARS, Iowa -- Viola A. Hoefling, 95, of Le Mars died Wednesday, May 26, 2004, at Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars.

Services will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars, with the Rev. William McCarthy officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Le Mars. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. today, with a Scripture wake service at 7 p.m., at Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars.

The former Viola Armella Meyen was born Sept. 13, 1908, in Remsen, Iowa, the daughter of Fred and Lena (Mai) Meyen. She was raised and educated in Remsen, graduating from St. Mary's Catholic High School. She received her teacher's certificate from Morningside College in Sioux City.

On March 18, 1932, she married Laurence Hoefling at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Le Mars. The couple lived most of their married lives in the Le Mars area. She was a devoted wife, mother and homemaker. Her husband, Laurence, died Dec. 14, 1971.

She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church. She enjoyed quilting and had made more than 100 quilts over the years. She also enjoyed playing cards and visits from family and friends.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Fred and Clarice Hoefling of Sioux City; 15 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two daughters, Mary Ann Shaw Vlieger and Beverly Vore; three sisters, Margaret Tentinger, Elizabeth Stoeber and Clarinda Bourn; and a brother, Bernard Heuertz.
