CORRECTIONVILLE, Iowa -- Esther Levin Hilger, 94, of Correctionville died Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2003, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Anthon, Iowa, with the Rev. William Schreiber officiating. Burial will be in Correctionville Cemetery. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today, with a vigil wake service at 7 p.m., all at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of Armstrong Funeral Home in Anthon.

Esther Dorothy Levin Hilger was born May 3, 1908, in Colorado, the daughter of Perry and Lucy (Davis) Heckenlively. She moved as a young girl with her family from Colorado to Hot Springs, Ark., and onto Kingsley, Iowa, at the age of 10.

On Oct. 8, 1924, she was united in marriage to Lester Levin. He passed away Jan. 14, 1964. She then married Harold Hilger on Sept. 10, 1969, in Kingsley. They moved to Correctionville. Harold passed away Aug. 7, 1993. She continued to live at home until entering Correctionville Nursing and Rehab Center.

She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Anthon.

Those survivors left to cherish her memory include two sons and their wives, Lester J. and Janet Levin of Sioux City and Arnold and Janice Levin of Kissee Mills, Mo.; three daughters, Anna Marie Smith of Correctionville, Betty Burns and her husband, Duane of Washta, Iowa, and Janet Brown and her husband, Gary of Bene, Minn.; a sister, Edith Stekel of Elk Point, S.D.; 16 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; 28 great-great-grandchildren; and several other relatives.

Along with her husbands, she was also preceded in death by her parents; an infant daughter, Ethel; four brothers; five sisters; a grandson; a great-grandson; and a son-in-law.
