AKRON, Iowa -- Gary William Hartmann, 93, of Akron died Friday, Jan. 10, 2003, at Akron City Convalescent Care Center.

Services will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron, with the Rev. William Kallestad officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Akron. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 5 to 7 p.m., at Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron.

Mr. Hartmann was born Aug. 7, 1909, in Tea, S.D., the son of Bruno J. and Margaret (Thielen) Hartmann. He served in World War II in the Air Force from 1942 until 1946.

Mr. Hartmann married Ardis "Penny" Hartmann on Nov. 30, 1947, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron. After returning from the service, he entered into partnership in Hartmann Brothers Oil Company, retiring in 1975.

Mr. Hartmann was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, was an American Legion member for 55 years, served on the Akron City Council, served on the Trinity Lutheran Church Council, also serving a president, and was a member of the Akron Golf Club as well as the Akron Bowling League.

Survivors include his wife; two brothers, Edward R. Hartmann and his wife, Virginia of Akron, and Raymond F. Hartmann and his wife, Lilly of Boulder, Colo.; a sister, Margaret "Micky" Jesperson and her husband, Ramon of Akron; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Carl, Rudy and Ben Hartmann; and three sisters, Alice Eichacker, Ann Willer and Tilda Hartmann.

Honorary pallbearers will be our Trinity Lutheran Church Family.
