LeRoy "Bud" Hartman, 83, of Sioux City died Friday, May 3, 2002, at Westwood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center following a lengthy illness.
Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Monday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel with the Rev. Kristine Frank of Crescent Park United Methodist Church officiating. Inurnment will be in Memorial Park Cemetery with military rites conducted by American Legion Monahan Post 64 of Sioux City. Visitation will be one our prior to the services Monday at the funeral home.
Mr. Hartman was born Aug. 15, 1918, in Hinton, Iowa, the son of Theodore and Mary (Waechter) Hartman. He attended school in Hinton. He married Ruth Knudsen on May 7, 1941. After marriage, the couple moved to Sioux City.
He enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1942 and served during World War II. After returning, he worked at Cutty's Packing Plant, and later Swift's Packing Plant. He enjoyed watching horse races and sports games.
He was a member of Crescent Park United Methodist Church in Sioux City, and American Legion Monahan Post 64 of Sioux City.
Survivors include his wife; a son-in-law, Leon Kenkel of Sioux City; two grandsons, Greg Kenkel and his wife, Kathy of Sioux City, and Stephan Kenkel of Sioux City; a granddaughter, Melissa Kenkel of Sioux City; two brothers, William Hartman of California, and Daryl Hartman of Le Mars, Iowa; three sisters, Gladys Hartman of Cherokee, Iowa, and Lorrain Parsons and Deloris Portteus, both of Seattle, Wash.; two great-grandchildren, Allison and Anna Kenkel; and several other relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Lois Kenkel; three brothers, Louis, Raymond and Theodore; and two sisters, Erma and Ruth.
