AKRON, Iowa -- Helen Margaret Hartman, 91, of Akron died Thursday, Jan. 23, 2003, at a Sioux City nursing home.
Services will be 11 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron, with the Rev. Marvin Mueller officiating. Burial will be in St. John Cemetery, Craig, Iowa. Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron.
Mrs. Hartman was born Jan. 8, 1912, in rural Craig, to Herman and Emile (Onken) Schulz. She attended school in Craig and was a lifelong resident of Plymouth County, Iowa.
She married Alfred B. Hartman on Jan. 14, 1937, in rural Craig. He preceded her in death on July 20, 1991. The couple retired from farming and moved into Akron in 1973. In June 1999, she entered Indian Hills Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Sioux City.
She was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Craig until 1973, when she joined Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron.
Survivors include three sons and their wives, Robert and Karen of Sioux City, Ronald and Rima of Sioux City, and Gerald and Mary of Merrill, Iowa; a daughter and her husband, Sandra and Bud Smith of Boone, Iowa; eight grandchildren, Cindi Hartman and her fiance, Buck Anderson, Steven Hartman, Mark Hartman and his wife, Val, Allison and her husband, Rob McCarville, Erica Hartman, Shannon Smith and her fiance, Andy Williams, Tyler Smith and Shawn Hartman; four great-grandchildren, Cooper Williams, Cole McCarville, Mackenzie Droft and Joshua Droft; two brothers and their wives, Herman and Helen Schulz and Melvin and Virginia Schulz, all of Le Mars; two sisters, Gladys and her husband, Bennie Aherndt of Le Mars, and Arlene McHale of Craig; and two sisters-in-law, Mildred Schulz of Le Mars, and Merva Hartman of Hawarden, Iowa.
She also was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Kenneth Schulz.
