REMSEN, Iowa -- Oliva Lang, 96, of Remsen died Friday, May 24, 2002, at Happy Siesta Health Care Center in Remsen.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Remsen, with the Rev. Thomas J. Hart officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Monday, with a rosary at 3 p.m. conducted by the Christian Mothers and Catholic Daughters of America and a vigil prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at Fisch Funeral Home.
Mrs. Lang was born June 4, 1905, in Remsen, the daughter of Barney and Mary (Lammers) Bunkers. She was raised in Remsen and received her education at St. Mary's Catholic School, graduating in 1923. She then attended National Business School in Sioux City.
She married Joe F. Lang on June 28, 1927, in Remsen. They made their home in Merrill, Iowa. They moved to Remsen in 1930, where they operated the Standard Oil Station until 1950. In 1951, they began operation of an ice cream shop in Remsen, which they operated until 1953. They then established the Lang Cafe, which they operated until they retired in 1960. Oliva also worked for several years at Hatz Grocery Store in Remsen. Joe died Jan. 14, 1974. In 1991, she moved to Le Mars, Iowa, for five years to be closer to her daughter. She had been a resident at Happy Siesta Health Care Center since Sept. 1, 1996.
She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Christian Mothers, Catholic Daughters of America, Ladies Catholic Order of Foresters and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary. She enjoyed her family and friends, playing cards, crafts, quilting and crocheting.
Survivors include a daughter, Jenieta Campbell of Le Mars; two sons, Gerald and his wife, Helen of San Mateo, Calif., and Richard of Ames, Iowa; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was also preceded in death by her parents; a son-in-law, Robert Campbell; five brothers, Aloysius, Rudolph, Raymond as a child, Clarence and Orlando; and an infant sister, Marie.
Pallbearers will be Robert Briley, Robert Campbell, Michael Dreckman, Thomas Lang, Nicholas Simons and Michael Sorensen.
