Stanley J. Jacobs, 73, of rural Akron, died Saturday, Aug. 2, 2008, at St. Luke's Regional Medical Center in Sioux City.
Stanley James Jacobs was born Oct. 3, 1934, on the family farm in Preston Township, rural Plymouth County, the son of Gert and Dena (Wilken) Jacobs. He attended country school in Preston Township. He began high school in Akron and continued in Le Mars. He graduated from Central High School in Le Mars.
Stan was united in marriage to LeJoyce Johnson on Feb. 26, 1954 at Christ Lutheran Church, Grant Township, rural Le Mars. They farmed in Preston Township most of their married life. LeJoyce died May 1, 2004.
Stan was lifetime member of St. John Evangelical Lutheran, Preston Township, having served for several years on the church council and many other church boards. He enjoyed attending the activities of his children and later his grandchildren. He was an avid sports fan, and enjoyed playing baseball and softball. In recent years he enjoyed coaching baseball. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Survivors include his three children: Patty Kivett and her husband Mike and their children, Matt, John, and Kayla of Gretna, Neb., Kevin Jacobs and his wife Sherry and their children, Lea, Mathew, Kyle, and Chad of Akron, and Scott Jacobs and his wife Carissa and their children, Nicholas and Josie of Akron; a brother: Orlan Jacobs and his wife Karen of Le Mars; a sister: Margaret Sitzmann and her husband David of Le Mars; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Gert and Dena (Wilken) Jacobs, and his wife, LeJoyce.
Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Preston Township, rural Akron. The Rev. Jerry Crow will officiate. Burial will follow in the parish cemetery. Visitations will be after 3 p.m. Tuesday with the family present after 6 p.m., and a prayer service at 7 p.m., all at Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the services on Wednesday at the church.
