The Rev. Larry C. Fett, 57, of Le Mars, died suddenly Friday, Aug. 1, 2008 in Branson, Mo., while taking several young men and women on a youth trip for Grace Lutheran Church.

Larry Carl Fett was born April 17, 1951 in Cherokee, the son of Vernon and Martha (Boettcher) Fett. After growing up in the Hanover area, he then went to Buena Vista College in Storm Lake. There he met his bride-to-be, the most wonderful woman he'd ever set his eyes on, Margaret Watkins. The two were married on Aug. 17, 1974 in Ames. During college and after graduating from BV, he worked for Fareway Grocery store in Storm Lake. After several years in the grocery business, he and Margaret had their first child on Oct. 7, 1976, April Ann Fett.

Just years after April was born, Larry went into seminary at the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod seminary in Fort Wayne, Ind. Three years into that, he did his vicarage program in Livonia, Mich. During his one year stay there, he and Margaret had their second child on May 23, 1982, Jeffrey Vernon Fett.

After spending another year in Fort Wayne, Pastor Fett got his first call to serve as a chaplain for Lutheran Missionary Association and Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Kansas City, Mo. During the family's five year stay there, he and Margaret had their second son on Nov. 11, 1986, Terry Robert Fett. Just one year after Terry's birth, Pastor and his family were called to Grace Lutheran Church in Le Mars. On Sept. 23, 1994, Pastor and Margaret added their last addition to the family, their third son Timothy Peter Fett.

Pastor Fett was actively involved with the C.R.O.P. Walk and the Ministerial Alliance. He served as a board member for Brentwood, Thrivent Insurance, and the Senior Helpmates. He was a member of Kiwanis Club and other community activities. He enjoyed fishing and attending all of his children's activities.

The most important role to Pastor Fett was his responsibility as a husband and father. He loved the times spent with his family. Pastor Fett was a good Christian man who loved his Lord and Savior, his family and the people he helped bring closer to God. In his 25-plus years in the ministry, he affected and brought closer to the Lord many people. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife of more than 33 years Margaret Fett of Le Mars; his daughter April (Fett) Reed and her husband Mark Reed of St. Paul, Minn.; and his three sons, Jeffrey Fett of St. Paul, Minn., Terry Fett and Timothy Fett of Le Mars; two aunts: Marie Franzmeier of Storm Lake and Alice Cross of Spirit Lake; a brother-in-law: Bill Watkins of Williamsburg; and several cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Martha Fett; and his father and mother-in-law: Robert and Mary Watkins.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Grace Lutheran Church in Le Mars. The Rev. Paul G. Sieveking, President Iowa District West and The Rev. Marcel Kohlmeyer, pastor of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Ireton, will officiate. The body has been cremated. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation with the family present will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Grace Lutheran Church in Le Mars. The Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars is in charge of arrangements.
