JOHANNA DYKSTRA

LE MARS, Iowa—Johanna Wilhelmina Dykstra, 93, of LeMars died Monday, March 1, 1999, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Presbyterian United Church of Christ in LeMars, with the Rev. Tim Olson officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with the family present after 7 p.m. at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in LeMars.

Mrs. Dykstra was born Aug. 17, 1905, near Perkins, Iowa, the daughter of Dirk and Grada (Nyman) Schut. She attended country school and graduated from high school in Sioux Center, Iowa. She then taught country school in Sioux County, Iowa.

She married Henry Dykstra on June 29, 1927, in Sioux Center. The couple lived in Hull, Iowa, until 1941, when they moved to Sioux Center. They moved to Canton, S.D., in 1950 and later to LeMars in 1958. He died in 1989.

She enjoyed needle work, crocheting and tatting.

Survivors include two daughters and their husbands, Norma and Eugene DeWit of Canby, Minn., and Karen and Lawrence “Casey” Stengel of LeMars; a son and his wife, Dr. Richard and Becky of Portland, Ore.; 11 grandchildren, Ruth Santjer, Paul Groninga, Ann Clarksean, Neal DeWit, Kim Sether-Koehn, Julie Dahle, Jackie Lemmermann, Kathy Kropel, Michael Stengel, Christopher Dykstra and Marissa Dykstra; 16 great-grandchildren; a great great granddaughter; a bother and his wife, Gerritt and Margaret Schut of Sioux Center; a sister, Henrietta TeStroete of Hospers, Iowa; a brother-in-law and his wife, Hessel and Arlene Dykstra of Sanborn, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Gertrude Hulst of Hospers; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a great granddaughter, three brothers and four sisters.

Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Michael Stengel, Christopher Dykstra, Aaron Clarksean, and William, Joel and Mark Santjer.
