WILHELMINA HARMS-DOWNING

LE MARS, Iowa—Wilhelmina “Minnie” Harms Downing, 95, formerly of LeMars, died Saturday, Oct. 23, 1999, at Hamilton Park Health Care Center in Jersey City, N.J.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Brunsville, Iowa, with the Rev. Peter Boe officiating. Burial will be in Christ Lutheran Church, rural LeMars. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Wednesday, with a prayer service at 7 p.m. at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home, in LeMars.

Mrs. Harms-Downing was born May 29, 1904, near LeMars, the daughter of John and Anke M. (Borchers) Dirks.

She married John Harms, who later died. She then married Ray Downing. She had been a resident of New Jersey for several years.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Gerald and Esmeralda Harms of Texas; three daughters, Marie Kelly of Bayonne, N.J., Joyce and her husband, Curtis Douglas of Edmond, Okla., and Lois Calcote of Midwest City, Okla.; a bother and his wife, Walter and Roberta Dirks of Akron, Iowa; 17 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, five brothers and two sisters.
