Doc was born Dec. 23, 1899, in Paducah, Ky., the son of Stephen and Catherine (Englert) Wurth. He was raised and educated in St. John's community of Paducah. He left Paducah in 1921 and worked in Detroit, Mich., for General Motors. He and three of his cousins later worked for farmers in South Dakota until settling in the Remsen area in the late 1920s.

He was a very humble man with a kind spirit. He enjoyed gardening and donating produce to the convent and the nursing home. He was very happy that he could be in his own home and attend daily Mass until May 1999, when he entered Park Place Estates in Le Mars. He truly enjoyed his Park Place family and had many fond memories of his life there.
