Mildred M. Yates, 84, of Sioux City died Thursday, Jan. 6, 2005, at Morningside Rehabilitation Center.

Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Morningside Assembly of God Church, with the Rev. Tom Jacobs officiating. The body was cremated. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation with the family present will be 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, with a prayer service at 3 p.m., at Christy-Smith Morningside Chapel.

Mildred Yates was born June 8, 1920, in Westfield, Iowa, the daughter of Arthur and Lavada (Harkness) Anderson. She attended school in Westfield.

She married Fred Yates in 1938, in Elk Point, S.D. he died May 1978. The couple moved to Sioux City in 1941. She worked at Armour's and Sioux City Battery.

She attended Westfield Congregational Church as a child and later Morningside Assembly of God Church.

Her family was the most important thing in her life. She enjoyed crafts (ceramics in [articular), reading, rummage sales, attending garage sales, country western music, fishing, boating, camping and was an avid gardener.

Survivors include four sons, Arthur (Beverly) Yates of Underwood, Iowa, Fred (Janice) Yates of Sioux City, Garry (Mary Kay) Yates of Sioux City and John (Judy) Yates of Spirit Lake, Iowa; a daughter, Jackie (Jim) Hendrickson of Sioux City; 14 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Margaret Hummel of Westfield, Iowa, Maie (Julian) Dziurawiec of Kansas City, Mo., and Marietta Brown of Westfield.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; an infant brother, Mervin; a sister, Melva Trobaugh; and three brothers-in-law, Gordon Hummel, Walter Trobaugh and Wallace Brown.

Honorary pallbearers will be her grandsons, Brad, Doug, Nick, Jake, Sam, Skip and Rod Yates and Jeremy Hendrickson.
