NAOMI MASON

Naomi Thorson Mason, 90, of Ames, died January 6, 2004, at Heartwood House in Ames.

Funeral services were held Saturday, January 10, at Helser Chapel at Collegiate Presbyterian Church in Ames. A Memorial Service was held Sunday, January 11, at Wesley Methodist Church in Akron. Burial was in East Riverside Cemetery in Akron.

Naomi Mason was born November 14, 1913, in Akron, the daughter of Edwin O. and Ethel Gadd Thorson. She married Chester (Chet) Mason, DDS on April 27, 1934. The couple moved to Akron in 1935. During World War II, the couple moved 13 times, returning to Akron in 1945. After Chet’s death in 1974, Naomi moved to Ames where she was house mother at the KD Sorority House at Iowa State University from 1975-1980.

She was a member of Wesley Methodist Church, lifetime member of Alpha Delta Phi Sorority, the ISU Womens Club, PEO Chapter HN, various bridge groups and was a Sunday school teacher.

Survivors include two daughters, Sue Ann (Heinz) Wilms of Woodsboro, MD, and Marcia (Burt) Benna of Ames; five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Mac Thorson.
