LE MARS, Iowa -- Douglas J. Martin, 43, of Le Mars died suddenly Friday, May 7, 2004, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday at Le Mars Bible Church, 1550 7th Ave., S.E., with the Rev. Fred Gums officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. today, with the family present after 6 p.m., followed by a 7 p.m. prayer service at the church, led by Mr. Larry Adler. Arrangements are with Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars.

Douglas James Martin was born July 31, 1960, to Milt and Dorothy (Friese) Martin in Worthington, Minn. Doug graduated from Le Mars Community High School in May of 1979. In high school, Doug participated in wrestling and football. He continued his education at Westmar College, graduating with a degree in English. He later returned to Westmar to continue his education, where he received his teaching credential. In the fall of 1998, Doug began teaching at Remsen St. Mary's Catholic School in Remsen, Iowa. He taught English and psychology and was the individual speech coach. He loved to teach and help his students.

Doug was united in marriage to Angela Swanson on Feb. 1, 1992, in Le Mars. Doug and Angela were blessed with a daughter, Michaela. Doug enjoyed fishing with friends and family, painting, writing and going swimming with his daughter, Michaela.

Doug, Angela and Michaela are members of the Le Mars Bible Church. Doug's family was his world, he lived his life for the Lord. He enjoyed witnessing to others and was willing to share the word with everyone. He was the best husband, father, son, brother and friend anyone could ask for.

Survivors include his wife, Angela and daughter, Michaela of Le Mars; his father and his wife, Milt and Ruth Martin of Le Mars; his brothers, Tom (Melinda) Martin of Pierce, Neb., Jim (KerryLee) Martin of Lisburn, North Ireland; stepbrothers, Aaron (Katie) Lee of Seattle, Wash. and Adam (Amanda) Lee of Ventura, Calif.; his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ken and Betty Swanson of Le Mars; a brother-in-law, Roland Swanson of Brookings, S.D.; aunts, uncles, cousins, friends, co-workers and students.

Doug was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy (Friese) Martin; a brother, Michael Martin; his stepmother, Connie (Lee) Martin; and his grandparents.

Pallbearers will be Tom Martin, Jim Martin, Aaron Lee, Adam Lee, Roland Swanson and Kirk Holland. Honorary pallbearers will be all of Doug's brothers in Christ.
