ROCK RAPIDS, Iowa -- Martha McCarty, 68, of Rock Rapids died Saturday, April 3, 2004, at Rock Rapids Health Centre.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Holy Name Catholic Church in Rock Rapids, with the Rev. Jeff Schleisman officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, Alvord, Iowa. Visitation will be 2 to 8:30 p.m. today, with the family present 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at Roste Funeral Home in Rock Rapids.

Martha Ann Frembgen was born Jan. 4, 1936, in Le Mars, Iowa, to John Edward and Mary Catherine (McGuire) Frembgen. She grew up in Rock Valley, Iowa, and graduated from Rock Valley High School in 1954.

On Feb. 4, 1956, she married Thomas J. McCarty at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Rock Valley. The couple lived in Lyon County, Iowa. On Sept. 6, 1986, Tom passed away. She worked as a certified nurse's aide for 10 years. She entered Rock Rapids Health Centre in December 2003.

She was active in the Altar Society, Ladies Aid, Eucharistic Ministry and taught catechism.

Survivors include eight children, Mark (Renae) McCarty of Rock Rapids, Debra (Richard) Rikkers of Sioux Center, Iowa, William (Julie) McCarty of Sioux Falls, S.D., Joseph (Kim) McCarty of Rock Rapids, Barbara (Terry) Jones of Rock Rapids, Coleen (Buddy) Delfs of Rock Rapids, Carol (Thomas) Rogers of Sioux Falls, and Patrick McCarty of Sioux Falls; 18 grandchildren; two brothers, Jack Frembgen of Denver, Colo., and Roger Frembgen of Rock Valley, Iowa; two sisters, Mary Roemen of Rock Rapids and Phyllis Sullivan of Alvord, Iowa; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and two brothers, David and Vernon Frembgen.
