AKRON, Iowa -- Charles F. "Charlie" McMahon, 68, of Akron passed away Tuesday, March 22, 2005, at Akron Care Center.
Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Akron, with the Rev. Richard Zenk officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery, Akron. Visitation with the family present will be after 5 p.m. today, with a Scriptural wake service at 8 p.m., at Carlsen Funeral Home -- Schroeder Chapel in Akron. Charles F. "Charlie" McMahon was born Sept. 6, 1936, in Milbank, S.D., the son of Robert and Laura (Otto) McMahon. He attended country school in rural Milbank. When he was 20 years old, he moved to the Akron-Westfield area.
He was united in marriage to Frances D. Orr on May 16, 1965, in South Sioux City. The couple lived in rural Westfield for many years, owning and operating Milnerville Country Store for many years. Charlie also owned his own truck with which he hauled gravel from Higman's Sand and Gravel for many years. He retired in 1999.
Frances passed away Sept. 12, 1990, in Sioux City.
Most recently, he was a resident of the Akron Care Center.
He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Akron. He enjoyed camping and fishing as well as traveling and working with horses.
Survivors include three brothers, Steve McMahon and his fiancee, Janet Delperdang of Westfield, Robert McMahon Jr. and his wife, Sandy of Odessa, Minn., and Gerald McMahon and his wife, Susan of Big Stone City, S.D.; three sisters, Joyce Hofhenke and Carol St. George, both of Milbank, and Marlene Goetsch and her husband, John of Nassau, S.D.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Frances.
