HARRY EARL BOGEN

LE MARS, Iowa – Harry Earl Bogen “Boggey” Bogen, 77, of LeMars, died Sunday, Nov. 26, 1995, at the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in LeMars with the Rev. Lynn Potter officiating. Visitation will be 9 a.m. Wednesday until service time at the funeral home. Military honors will be conducted the LeMars American Legion Post.

Mr. Bogen was born March 6, 1918, in LeMars, the son of Harry and Effie (Atwood) Bogen. His mother died when he was 6 and he was raised by his aunt and uncle, Clara and Elmer Atwood. He attended school in Rock Rapids and graduated from Rock Rapids High School. In July 1941 he was drafted into the Army during World War II and spent time in the South Pacific with the field artillery. He also served in Italy. After the war he served an apprenticeship with Hansen Hardware and Plumbing. He then farmed for a time and returned to LeMars where he worked construction jobs; Farm Service and later was a patrolman with the LeMars Police Department. After retiring he was a part-time Park Department employee; also served as a part-time deputy sheriff. He also was a volunteer fireman. He married Elizabeth Bensen in 1945. They were divorced in 1957.

Survivors include his Aunt Clara Atwood of Fort Dodge; cousins, Robert Atwood of Florida, Glenn Atwood of Ohio and Jerry Berg of West Des Moines; and a special friend, Marvel Hartle.

He was also preceded in death by his uncle, Elmer Atwood.
