PARNELL W. BOETGER

AKRON, Iowa – Parnell “Charley” W. Boetger, 79, of Akron died unexpectedly Saturday, April 29, 2000, at a Sioux City hospital.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Akron with Rev. Dan Stegen officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery with a flag presentation by the Hoschler American Legion Post 186 of Akron. Visitation will be from 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present from 7 to 8 p.m. at the Schroeder Funeral Home.

Mr. Boetger was born Feb. 26, 1921, in Akron, S.D., the son of Ernest and Mary (Beeler) Boetger. He graduated from Akron (Iowa) High School in 1940. He married Olive Pederson on June 18, 1946, at Trinity Lutheran Church Moe Parish in Hudson, S.D.

He worked for Shoulberg and Gassman’s Ford Garage and Rod’s Ford as a mechanic until 1976. He worked for the Akron (Iowa) Community School as the Director of Transportation and part-time custodian. He retired in 1989. He enjoyed fishing, cards, and gardening.

He was an active member of the American Legion Post 186 for 55 years. He belonged to Immanuel Lutheran Church where he served on the council and was an usher. He moved into Akron Convalescent Care Center in December 1999.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Rob and his wife, Joan of Branden, Fla.; two daughters, Sharon and her husband, Robert Frerichs, of Akron, and Julie and her husband, Jerome Haage of LeMars; five grandchildren, Nicole Johnson, Shawn and Hollie Frerichs, Jennifer and Luke Haage; a sister, Elaine McCormick of Downey, Calif.; many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Orville, Raymond, Clifford and Darrell.

Pallbearers will be Doug Boetger, Jerald Dykstra, Wayne Von Hagel Jr., Robert Nielsen, Norman Heeren, and Gene Waag.
