Iona R. Blackmore

LE MARS, Iowa -- Iona Ruby Blackmore, 79, of Thornton, Colo., formerly of Le Mars, passed away March 27, 2003, at ElmsHaven Nursing Home in Thornton.

Graveside services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Hillside Cemetery, Merrill, Iowa, with the Rev. Gary Landsness of St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars.

Iona Ruby Klave was born May 31, 1923, in Le Mars, the daughter of Fred and Rose (Schmidt) Klave. While living in Le Mars, she worked at the Brentwood Good Samaritan Center. She later moved to Colorado Springs, Colo. to be closer to family. Her husband, Merlin passed away June 8, 1980. More recently, she was a resident at ElmsHaven Nursing Home in Thornton.

She will be lovingly remembered by her daughter, Carol Groetken of Denver, Colo.; two sons and their wives, Kenneth and Mary Blackmore of Henderson, Nev., and Duane and Jean Blackmore of Portland, Ore.; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Anita Berkenpas of Le Mars and Joan Trometer of Sioux City.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Merlin; two sisters, Irene and Bernice; four brothers, Marvin, Lawrence, Vernon and Don; a great-grandson, Jesse; and a son-in-law, Cletus Groetken on June 2, 2003.
