MAURENE M. BECKER

LE MARS, Iowa – Maurene Mythilda Becker, 93, of Johnston, Iowa, formerly of LeMars, died of congestive heart failure Thursday, May 13, 1999, at her residence.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Zion Lutheran Church in Johnston. Graveside services will be at 4:30 p.m. Monday in LeMars Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be after 11 a.m. Sunday, with the family present 6 to 7 p.m., at Westover Funeral Home in Des Moines.

Mrs. Becker was born March 2, 1906, in Anthon, Iowa, the daughter of Gustav and Ida V. (Carlin) Hansen. She moved with her family to LeMars, where she graduated from LeMars High School.

She married Alwin R. Becker on June 24, 1924. She was a homemaker. She had been a resident of Johnston for 13 years.

While living in LeMars, she was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, the women and senior choirs and the children’s choir director. She was also a member of Women’s Circle, where she was an officer and Order of the Eastern Star. In Des Moines, she was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. She enjoyed playing bridge.

Survivors include four sons, Robert L., of Marcus, Iowa, Dale A. and his wife, Sally, of Mason City, Iowa, Louis H. and his wife, Cindy, of Iowa City, Iowa, and Kenneth G. and his wife, Gretchen, of Cresco, Iowa; a daughter-in-law, Lorraine Becker of Des Moines; 12 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and three great great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by an infant brother; her husband; a son, Gene; a daughter-in-law, Betty; and a great grandson.

Memorials may be directed to Zion Lutheran Church.
