WALTER G. BECK

ALCESTER, S.D. – Walter G. Beck, 90, of Alcester, died Wednesday, July 17, 1996, at Sioux Valley Hospital in Sioux Falls.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Peace Lutheran Church in Alcester with the Rev. Richard Luttmann officiating. Burial will be in Peace Lutheran Cemetery, rural Alcester. Visitation will be 11 a.m. Saturday until service time at the church. Wass Funeral Home of Alcester is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Beck was born May 19, 1906, in Kingsley, Iowa, the son of Peter and Barbara (Hoffman) Friedman. He attended Kingsley and Merrill, Iowa, schools and later farmed in the Merrill and Leeds area in Iowa. He later moved to Martinsburg, Neb., where he farmed for two years and also operated a welding shop.

On Nov. 24, 1965, he married Edith Fickbohm Buum in Sioux City. He worked for Holtz Construction Co. In 1973, they moved to an acreage near Beresford. In October 1987, they moved to Alcester due to his poor health.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Robert and his wife, Eva Jean of Minneapolis, Minn., and Larry of Milwaukee, Wis.; a stepson, Roger Buum of Chamberlain; a daughter, Dolores Jaminet of Sioux City; a stepdaughter, Avis Sunderman of Hawarden, Iowa; 14 grandchildren; 12 step grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; 30 step great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter, and a nephew.

He was also preceded in death by a son, Ronald, and two sisters, Edith Costello and Dorothy Beck.

Pallbearers will be Owen Quall, Gary Anderson, James Sommervold, John Stene Jr., Francis Jacobson and Robert Vreugdenhil.
