Milton Gabel, 78 Claimed by Death
Had Been Prominent Farmer in County
Milton Gabel, 78, died unexpectedly at 5 a. m. Thursday, April 27, at the Sacred Heart hospital. Mr. Gable had suffered a heart attack Wednesday morning and had been taken to the hospital for treatment and care. No funeral arrangements had been announced Thursday afternoon.
Mr. Gabel, a retired farmer, came to Plymouth county as a young man. He was born Feb. 29, 1872 in the Carroll county, Iowa the son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Gabel.
He was married to Lena Harbst in February, 1900 at the Harbst home in Marion township. They were the parents of eight daughters.
Mr. and Mrs. Gabel farmed in the Johnson township until 1937 when they retired and moved to LeMars. Mr. Gabel was an active member of the Adaville Evangelical United Brethren church.
Milton Gabel was preceded in death by his wife, Lena, who died in 1938 and three brothers. He is survived by his eight daughters, Mrs. Martha Philips, Mrs. Alice Willer and Mrs. Mildred Stoel all of Akron, and Mrs. Mable Herman, Mrs. Edith Burkett, and Edith [Lillian], Leon and Evelyn Gabel, all of LeMars.
Also surviving are 24 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, three brothers, George of Merrill, Frank of LeMars and Leo of Bath, S.D. and three sisters, Mrs. Lizzie Olson of Colome, S.D., Mrs. Jessie Treptow of LeMars and Mrs. Mary Bohlken of Hollydale, Calif.
