Obituary, Art Gabel
Art Gabel, a well known Plymouth county pioneer and resident of the Akron community, passed away early Monday morning at his home. Mr. Gabel was 63 years of age.
A native of Iowa, he was born on April 24, 1882, and it pleased Almighty God to call him from time to eternity on October 29, 1945. His parents were Mr. and Mrs. Michael Gabel and as a young man he pursued the occupation of farming which he continued successfully for many years. On November 25, 1908, he was united in marriage to Miss Anna Laura Strader and this happy union was blessed with four children, all of whom survive with his beloved wife to mourn the loss of a beloved husband and father.
Besides his wife, deceased is survived by his four children, Lois, at home; James Gabel, Akron; Glenn Gabel, LeMars; Gene, of Akron; five brothers, George of Merrill, Frank of LeMars, Merton of Akron, Lee of Aberdeen, S. D.; Three sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Olson of Colome, S.D., Mrs. Jessie Treptow of LeMars, and Mrs. Mary Bohlken of Long Beach, Cal. One brother, Ernest, and one infant brother preceded Mr. Gabel in death. Mr. Gabel will also be greatly missed by his six grandchildren who are David, Connie, Leon Kay, James Jr. , Wanda and Gene Arthur.
Mr. Gabel became a member of the Plymouth Presbyterian church on October 17, 1926, on profession of faith in Christ as his Lord and Saviour. His last attendance at divine service was on October 7, 1945 when he partook of the Sacrament of the Lord’s Supper on World Wide Communion Sunday. Mr. Gabel’s favorite hymn was “What a Friend We Have in Jesus.”

DEATH COMES TO PROMINENT AKRON FARMER MONDAY
Arthur Gabel Had Been Resident of Preston Township 59 Years
Arthur Gabel, a prominent farmer and stockman, passed away Monday morning, October 29, 1945, at his farm home, northeast of Akron, in Preston township. Mr. Gabel was seriously injured in a fall from a load of hay a year or more ago and had been in good health since, but Hodgkin’s disease was the immediate cause of his death. He was 63 years, 6 months, and 5 days of age.
Arthur Gabel, son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Gabel, early day residents of Preston township, was born April 24, 1882, in Sac County, Iowa. He moved with his parents to northwest Plymouth county in 1886 and had resided here ever since. He married Anna Strader, November 25, 1908, in Sioux City, Iowa.
Left to mourn his departure are his wife; three sons, James, Glenn and Eugene, and a daughter, Lois, all at home; several brothers and sisters; and six grandchildren. An upright and industrious citizen, a kind and devoted husband and father, and a fine neighbor, he was highly esteemed by all who held his acquaintance. A host of friends extend sympathy to the bereaved relatives.
Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon in Plymouth Presbyterian church, conducted by Rev. Theo. O. Seibert, the pastor. There was a large attendance at the services. Interment was in the church cemetery.
