George Gabel
George Gabel, long-time Merrill resident, passed away at Akron on February 15, following a sickness which lasted more than 2½ years. He was 79 years, 11 months and 17 days of age.
Mr. Gabel was born February 28, 1875 in Carroll county, Iowa. He came to Plymouth county at the age of 11, and farmed in Plymouth county until 1943, when he retired to Merrill.
Mr. Gabel was married to Sarah Taylor at her home near Merrill on March 15, 1899.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, February 18 at the Plymouth Presbyterian church near Brunsville under direction of the Mauer funeral home. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Rev. C. R. Kruse officiating. Remains will be taken to the home in Merrill, and will remain there until time for the services.
Survivors include the widow, Sarah of Merrill; two daughters, Mrs. Verna Fagan of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Mrs. Vera Atkinson of Merrill; a son, Cloyd Gabel of Merrill; 7 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; a brother Leo Gabel of Bath, S.D., and a sister, Mrs. Mary Bohlken of Los Angeles, California.
Mr. Gabel was preceded in death by two sons, 6 brothers, and three sisters. He was an elder in Plymouth Presbyterian church, and a member of the Men’s Brotherhood.
