John Robertson, 83, a pioneer of Plymouth County, died at his home in Johnson township, Thursday, after a long illness. Mr. Robertson was a resident of the county for sixty-six years, coming here among the early settlers in 1870. He took up land and engaged in farming, an occupation he followed all his life.
John Robertson was born March 13, 1853, in Nova Scotia, Canada, and came with his parents to Iowa in 1869, and in 1870 located in Johnson township.
He was united in marriage to Miss Anna McKinnon, January 1, 1893.
He is survived by his wife, and three brothers, Duncan Robertson, of LeMars; Angus Robertson, of Wessington Springs, S. D., and Neil Robertson, former county supervisor, who is at present in San Antonio, Texas. He also leaves a number of nephews and nieces.
John Robertson was well known in the community, especially among the older residents. He was one of the stalwart pioneers who helped build up this community.
Arrangements are pending for the funeral which will be held at the Plymouth Presbyterian church, near Crathorne, Rev. W. E. Smith officiating. The last rites were to have been held Sunday but the blizzard stopped all traffic.
The funeral will probably be held Wednesday afternoon if weather conditions ameliorate and the roads are opened for traffic.
