DOROTHY M. LUKEN

LE MARS, Iowa --- Dorothy Margaurite Luken, 80, of LeMars, died Friday, Feb. 13, 2001, at a Sioux City hospital of injuries suffered in a fall.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. James Catholic Church in LeMars, with Monsignors Michael D. Sernett and Mervin J. Hood officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, LeMars. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Friday with a parish rosary at 4 p.m. a Scriptural wake service at 7 p.m. and a rosary conducted by Our Lady Queen of Peace prayer group and Catholic Daughters of America at 8 p.m., all at Feuerstein Funeral Home in LeMars.

Mrs. Luken was born Sept. 24, 1920, in Plymouth County, Iowa, the daughter of Herman and Mary (Grieveldinger) Schuttpelz. She graduated from Sioux City Central High School in 1938.

She attended Westmar College in LeMars and Morningside College in Sioux City, where she majored in elementary education. She taught for several years in country schools.

She married Merlin Luken in 1943, in Sioux City. Her husband died in 1966.

She resumed her teaching career. She also worked in Libraries and the Plymouth County Courthouse, retiring in 1980.

She was a member of St. James Catholic Church, Our Lady of Peace prayer group and Catholic Daughters of America.

Survivors include two daughters, Linda Domnitz and her fiancé, James Berns of Minneapolis and JoAnn and her husband, Joseph De Santis, of Marietta, Ga.; three grandchildren, Mindee Pandtle, Brendan Butler and Justin Domnitz; a great grandchild; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by seven brothers, Joseph, Carl, George, Richard, Elmer, William and Herman “ Dick” Schuttpelz; and three sisters, Freda Rodwig, Elsie Bartleson and Christine Vondrak.
