ELLEN E. LAKE

MERRILL, Iowa --- Ellen E. Lake, 97, of Merrill, died Friday, Jan. 12, 1996, at Brentwood Good Samaritan Center in LeMars, Iowa.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Merrill United Methodist Church with the Rev. Fred Malone officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a 7 p.m. prayer service, at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in LeMars.

Mrs. Lake, the former Ellen Esther Easton, was born Feb. 18, 1898, the daughter of Joseph and Mona (King) Easton, on the family farm west of Merrill. She grew up on the family farm south of Merrill and attended country school. She graduated from Merrill High School in 1918, and then taught country school for a few years. She married Eldon Lake Feb. 8, 1921, at the home of her parents near Merrill. The couple farmed in Stanton Township, Iowa, for a few years before moving to Lake Benton, Minn. They returned to farm north of Merrill in 1926, where they farmed until retiring in 1953 and moving to Merrill. Mr. Lake died in March 1984. Mrs. Lake became a resident of the Brentwood Good Samaritan Center in November 1995.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Marjorie and Leo Jividen of Sioux City; two sons and their wives, Donald and Joyce of LeMars, and Stan and Lorraine of Hinton, Iowa; a sister, Bess Tucker of Aberdeen, Wash.; nine grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and one great great grandchild; three sisters-in-law, Eva Easton of LeMars, Frances Easton of Elma, Wash., and Elsie Easton of Akron, Iowa; and nieces and nephews and cousins.

She was also preceded in death by four brothers, Harold Anderson, and James, Elvie and Roger Easton; and two sisters, Mabel Howes and Catherine Schneider.

Pallbearers will be Richard Anderson, Gerald and Ronald Johnson, Joseph, James, Monte and Darrell Easton, and Milton Schneider.
