GLADYS JOHNSON

AKRON, Iowa --- Gladys Johnson, 92, of Akron died Tuesday, May 14, 1996, at the Akron Care Center after a brief illness.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Wesley United Methodist Church in Akron with the Rev. Donald Greenough officiating. Burial will be in the Plymouth Presbyterian Cemetery, rural Akron. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Friday, with the family present 7 to 8 p.m., at the Schroeder Funeral Home, Akron.

Mrs. Johnson was born Oct. 6, 1903, in Chatsworth, the daughter of Archie and Elizabeth (Hubbs) Harris. She graduated from Akron High School in 1923 and attended Normal School for one year. She then taught in a country school near her home.

She married Joseph Johnson June 4, 1925, in Sioux City. The couple farmed in the Akron area until 1969, when they retired and moved to Akron. Mr. Johnson died Jan. 17, 1979.

Mrs. Johnson was a member of the Rural Home Culture Club and was a past matron of the Fraternal Order of Eastern Star.

Survivors include three daughters, Mrs. Raymond (Ramona) Weenink of Akron, Elizabeth Oliphant of Cedar Rapids, and Mrs. Ed (Marian) Mitchell of Alton; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; one great great grandchild; two brothers, Wayne Harris of Chico, Calif., and Parker Harris of Cody, Wyo., and four sisters, Edith Suden of Lewistown, Mont., Mona DePee of Spokane, Wash., Helen Christenot of Chester, Mont., and Shirley Early of Great Falls, Mont.

She was also preceded in death by a brother, Lee Harris, and a sister, Jesse Peltzer.

Pallbearers will be Herb, Jason, Richard and Sam Philips, Merlin Brown and Rollin Tindall.
