GERTIE KLINGBEIL

REMSEN, Iowa --- Gertie Klingbeil, 91, of Remsen, died Friday, May 21, 1999, at Plymouth Care Center in LeMars, Iowa, following a lengthy illness.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Remsen, with the Rev. Craig Miller officiating. Burial will be in Cherokee Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Cherokee, Iowa. Visitation will be after 3 p.m. Monday, with the family present 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., and a prayer service 7:30 p.m., at the church. Arrangements are under the direction of the Moeller Funeral Home in Remsen.

Mrs. Klingbeil was born March 5, 1908, in Granville, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Esther (Dunn) Smith. She graduated from Marcus (Iowa) High School in 1927. She taught school in Cherokee County. [sic-taught in Plymouth County, Henry Twp No. 1, 1927-1928]

She married Paul Carl Klingbeil on Feb. 20, 1929, in Cherokee. The couple farmed for one year and then traveled with his job throughout Iowa. In 1936, they returned to farming in the Remsen area and raised minks, retiring in 1965. He died in August 1969. She continued to live in the Remsen area. She entered Plymouth Care Center in 1997.

She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Martha Circle and the Birthday Club. She enjoyed the outdoors, playing bingo and cards.

Survivors include three sons and their wives, Donald and Dawn of Remsen, Ronald and Linda of Marcus and Robert and Patricia of Remsen; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Marjorie Wick of Everett, Wash., and Elsie Breckwald of Marysville, Wash.; two brothers, Clifford Smith of Shakopee, Minn., and Donald Smith of Dunnegan, Mo.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Violet Aspleaf; two brothers, Orval and Leland Smith.
