CAROLINE C. BARKER

LE MARS, Iowa --- Caroline C. Barker, 104, of LeMars died Monday, Feb. 8, 1999, at Brentwood Good Samaritan Center in LeMars.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John’s Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A. in LeMars, with the Rev. Gary Landsness officiating. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Saturday in St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Craig, Iowa. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in LeMars.

Mrs. Barker was born Oct. 28, 1894, near Craig, the daughter of Fred H. and Wilhelmina (Barinsky) Gronemeyer. She attended country school in Preston Township, then helped on the farm.

She married William E. “Ted” Barker on Nov. 27, 1919, in Preston Township. The couple farmed in Preston Township until 1951, when they moved to LeMars. He died in 1967.

She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Preston Township, St. John Lutheran Church in Craig, St. John’s Lutheran Church and Ephphatha Circle in LeMars. She also helped clean the LeMars church for several years. She enjoyed baking and quilting.

Survivors include a son and his wife, Norman and Ruth of LeMars; a daughter and her husband, Sharen and John Gillette of Santa Cruz, Calif.; six grandchildren, Carolyn Peterson, Joann Johnson, James Barker, Jean Fichter, Hilary and Nicole Gillette; 11 great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law, Evelyn and Tina Gronemeyer, both of LeMars; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by five brothers, Fred, George, John, William and Arthur Gronemeyer.
