AKRON, Iowa -- Mathilda "Tillie" Erks, 96, of Akron died Saturday, March 1, 2003, at Akron Care Center.

Services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. John's Lutheran Church in rural Akron. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. Monday, with the family present 6 to 7 p.m., at Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron.

Mathilda Schmidt was born July 30, 1906, near Akron to John and Mathilda (Wurl) Schmidt.

She married John Erks on Aug. 19, 1925, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron. The couple made their home on a farm east of Akron. After retiring, the couple moved into Akron. John passed away in December 1991.

Mathilda was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church.

Among those who survive and gratefully shared her life are her two sons, Gene Erks and his wife, Kathleen, and Dwayne Erks and his wife, Margret; four grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Bill, John and Elmer; four sisters, Hilda, Mina, Ella and Emma; and two half sisters, Hannah and Christina.
