AKRON, Iowa -- Raymond David Ericson, 77, of Akron passed away Wednesday, Nov. 6, 2002, at his residence following a lengthy illness.

Services will be 1:30 p.m Saturday at Union Creek Lutheran Church in rural Akron, with the Rev. Steve Larson officiating. Burial will be in Union Creek Lutheran Cemetery, with military rites conducted by American Legion Hoschler Post 186 of Akron and Veterans of Foreign Wars of Alcester, S.D. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7:30 p.m., at Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron.

Raymond was born Aug. 13, 1925, in Union County, S.D., near Akron, to Alve and Anna (Petry) Ericson. He married Audrey Ericson at Union Creek Lutheran Church in Akron. He served in the U.S. Army from 1944 to 1946, stationed in the Philippines and the European Theater in Germany. After the service, he farmed his entire life in Union County, S.D., on the same farm that he was born on.

He was a member of Union Creek Lutheran Church, where he served on the church council. He also was a member of American Legion Post 186, Alcester Veterans of Foreign Wars, Union County REC board, Clay Rural Water board, Farmers Cooperative and Sioux Valley Township board.

Survivors include his wife, Audrey; a son and his wife, Bruce and Patty Ericson of Akron; a daughter and her husband, Paulette and Darold Vanderham of Alcester, S.D.; a daughter-in-law, Nancy Ruhland of Akron; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, David; a brother, Robert; and a nephew, Ky Ericson.

Pallbearers will be his grandchildren, Chad, Gene and David Ericson, Trent Ruhland, Travis and Jason Robinson, Tina Ward and Tracy and Tim Vanderham. Honorary pallbearers will be his great-grandchildren, Jessica and Kyle Kenefick and Kendra Ericson.
