AKRON, Iowa -- Phyllis Lea Ericson, 83, of Akron died Friday, Dec. 13, 2002, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Wesley United Methodist Church in Akron, with the Rev. Laurice Streyffeler officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today, with the family present 3 to 4 p.m. and a prayer service at 3:30 p.m., at Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron.
Mrs. Phyllis Ericson was born Feb. 27, 1919, in Akron, the daughter of L.D. and Cecile (Rice) Ross. She attended and graduated from Akron High School in 1937.
She married Cecil A. Ericson on Nov. 9, 1962, in Dakota City. She was employed as a secretary and teachers aide in the Akron-Westfield School, retiring in 1981. Mr. Ericson preceded her in death on May 23, 1996.
She had been a member of Wesley United Methodist Church since 1929. She was active in United Methodist Women and circles in the church. She sang in the church choir and taught Sunday school for many years. She also was a member of Akron Lions Club, American Legion Auxiliary, Senior Citizens Club, Embroidery Club and Birthday Club. In her free time, she enjoyed crocheting, embroidery, reading and playing cards.
Survivors include her children and their spouses, Gary and Cetta Ericson of Sioux City, Cecilia and Mike McCue of Chicago, and George and Terri Ericson of Harlingin, Texas; a brother-in-law and his wife, Derwood and Ramona Ericson of Hawarden, Iowa; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and grandparents.
