ERICKSON, OLSON, JOHNSON

Vance A. Erickson, 87, of Sioux City died Tuesday, Dec. 14, 2004, at his residence following a lengthy illness with cancer.

Memorial services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Meyer Brothers Colonial Chapel, with the Rev. Alan Wicks of First Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. There will be no visitation.

Mr. Erickson was born May 10, 1917, in Akron, Iowa, the son of August and Thersa (Olson) Erickson. He grew up in Akron and graduated from Akron High School.

He married Wanda Johnson on Dec. 12, 1940, in Nashua, Iowa. He was a John Deere dealer in Sloan, Iowa for 20 years. The couple moved to sunny Sun City, Ariz. to enjoy the mild winters.

He was a member of the American Lutheran Church in Sun City and a 50-year member of the Masonic Lodge in Sloan. He loved to travel with his motor home on caravans to Alaska, Canada and Mexico. He also enjoyed cruises and visiting the European counties and China.

Survivors include his wife, Wanda of Sioux City; many nieces and nephews who were so wonderful and caring; and a sister, Pearl Robbins of Lake of the Ozarks, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Valda McGarry, Grace Buehre, Ruth Cole and Bertha Crandal; and a brother, Ted Erickson.
