LE MARS, Iowa -- Theresa M. Engel, 94, of Le Mars passed away Tuesday, Nov. 5, 2002, at The Abbey of Le Mars.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars, with the Rev. Peter Boe of Christ Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at the funeral home. Visitation will resume at 9 a.m. until service time Saturday at the funeral home.

Theresa Marie Engel was born Nov. 30, 1907, in Washington Township, Plymouth County, Iowa, the daughter of John and Catherine (Rewerts) Harms. She was baptized and confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church in rural Le Mars. She attended country school in Washington Township.

On Sept. 27, 1944, she and Hans J. Engel were united in marriage in Le Mars. The couple made their home on a farm near Sutherland, Iowa. In May of 1945, she brought her twin sons, Harlan and Harley, into the world. In 1948, the family relocated to Lincoln County, Minn., and later north to Morrison County, Minn. She worked at a resort on Gull Lake for a number of years.

The family lived in Wadena, Minn., and Terrill, Iowa, prior to moving to Sioux City. Mr. Engel passed away in Sioux City on March 5, 1992. She moved to Norfolk, Va., to be closer to her son, Harlan. They returned to the Sioux City area and in 1997, she moved to The Abbey of Le Mars.

She will be lovingly remembered by her twin sons, Harlan James Engel of Hartley, Iowa, and Harley Jon Engel of Manitowoc, Wis.; three grandchildren, Doni Engel of Norfolk, Va., Richard Engel of Virginia Beach, Va., and Katrina Engel of Ligonier, Ind.; two great-grandchildren, Ashely Cornwell of Girard, Mich., and Jaimie Biggerstaff of Ligonier, Ind.; a sister, Hilda Harms of Le Mars; and a brother and his wife, Clarence and Baulah of Hawarden, Iowa.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was also preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Jacquelyn Marie Engel; sisters, Kate and Meta; and brothers, Carl, Fred, Donald and Alfred; and infant brother, Jurgen.
