MATHILDA ALESCH

REMSEN, Iowa --- Mathilda “Tillie” Alesch, 91, of Remsen died Tuesday, December 14, 1999, at Floyd Valley Hospital in LeMars, Iowa, following a lengthy illness.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with the Monsignor Riger Augustine, Revs. Thomas J. Hart, and Jerome Degen and Deacon Allan Weiler officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a rosary at 3 p.m. said by Christian Mothers and Catholic Daughters of America and a vigil service at 7:30 p.m., all at Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen.

Mrs. Alesch was born March 30, 1908, in rural Granville, Iowa, the daughter of Herman and Elizabeth (Meis) Schilmoeller. She was raised in the Granville area and attended St. Joseph's school in Granville.

She married Raymond Alesch on June 26, 1933, in Granville. The couple farmed near Oyens, Iowa, until 1944, when they moved to a farm near Remsen. They retired on the farm in 1968 and moved into Remsen in 1981. He died January 5, 1995. She entered Happy Siesta Health Center in Remsen in August 1995.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Christian Mothers, where she was a past president, Catholic Daughters of America, Missionary Society, Lioness, and a neighborhood card club. She enjoyed playing cards, bingo, bowling and crocheting.

Survivors include two sons and their wives, Kenneth and Marietta of Remsen and Paul and Jane of Lake View, Iowa; five daughters and their husbands, Betty and Dennis Moser of Marcus, Iowa, Marlene and Paul Pick of Remsen, Jacquie and Jim O’Connor of Valley, Neb., Kay and Bob Johnson of Omaha, Claudia and Steven Larsen of Blair, Neb.; 23 grandchildren; 32 great-grandchildren; a brother and his wife, Emil and Elizabeth Schilmoeller of Remsen; and a sister, Alvina Augustine of Remsen.

She was preceded in death by a grandson, Dennis Raymond Moser; a great-granddaughter; four brothers, Julius, Albin, Alphonse, and Ray Schilmoeller; and four sisters, Elizabeth Degen, Henrietta Recker, Agnes Bunt and Josephine Gentrup.

Pallbearers will be Casey Larsen, Kim Moser, Mike O'Connor, Jeff, Jon, Nancy, Pat and Jeff Pick.
