HERBERT ALTHAUS

HINTON, Iowa --- Herbert Wallace Althaus, 75, of Hinton died unexpectedly Thursday, March 14, 1996, at his home.

Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Salem Lutheran Church in rural Correctionville, Iowa, with the Rev. Marvin Mueller officiating. Burial will be at a later date. There will be no visitation. The Earnest-Dickison-Michaelson Funeral Home of Kingsley, Iowa, is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Althaus was born Oct. 4, 1920, in Pierson, Iowa, the son of William and Amelia (Rock) Althaus. He graduated from Grand Meadow School and worked as a farmer, mechanic and carpenter. He farmed in the Pierson area, moving to Kingsley in 1969 and Hinton in 1990. He married Florence Clausen Dec. 10, 1943, at the Salem Lutheran Church. She died Nov. 20, 1989. He married Dorothy Rath Dec. 8, 1990, in Hinton.

Mr. Althaus was very active in the Salem Lutheran Church and the Omega Senior Citizen Group of the church, as well as at the Senior Citizens Center and as a Senior Citizen Legislature representative.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy of Hinton; four sons, David Althaus and his wife, Diane, of Sioux Rapids, Iowa, Richard Althaus of El Cajon, Calif., Gary Althaus and his wife Tracey of Sioux City, and Donald Althaus and his wife Ann of LaCoste, Texas; a daughter and her husband, Barbara and Terry Fletcher of Kingsley; a daughter-in-law, Barbara Post-Althaus of DesMoines, Iowa; 15 grandchildren and one great-granddaughter; a sister Lorna Buss, of Sioux City; and a brother, William Althaus of Kenyon, Minn.

He was also preceded in death by his parents; a son, James Althaus; a grandson, Mark Althuas; and a brother, Bruce.
