LE MARS, Iowa -- Ronald R. Carley, 92, of Le Mars died Friday, Nov. 9, 2001, at Brentwood Good Samaritan Center in Le Mars.

Services will be 2 p.m. Monday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars, with the Rev. Gary Landsness officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery, Le Mars. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Sunday, with the family present 2 to 4 p.m. and a prayer service at 3 p.m., at Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service Monday at the church.

Ronald R. Carley was born April 14, 1909, in Le Mars, the son of Frank and Florence (Clarke) Carley. He graduated from Le Mars High School and attended Western Union (Westmar) College. In 1929, Ronald joined the Iowa Army National Guard. He served as an officer in Company K. The company was inducted into the U.S. Army on Feb. 10, 1941, and was sent to Camp Clairborne, La. They departed for Ireland on Feb. 17, 1942. Ronald served overseas in the African and Italian campaigns as an intelligence officer with the 34th Division. He attained the rank of lieutenant colonel prior to his honorable discharge on Jan. 26, 1946.

Ronald and Marguerite Schulz were united in marriage on Oct. 10, 1940, in Le Mars. Following Ronald's military service, the couple made their home in Le Mars. Ronald farmed and worked for the Iowa Liquor Control Commission when it was formed in the mid-1960s. Ronald moved to Brentwood Good Samaritan Center on Aug. 11, 2000.

He was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, American Legion and the Elks Lodge.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Marguerite of Le Mars; a son, Mark and his special friend, Linda Linduski of Sioux City; a daughter, Martha Carley and her husband, Bill Szotkowski of River Falls, Wis.; a granddaughter, Annie Carley-Szotkowski; a sister, Lorraine Woodall of Marcus, Iowa; a brother and his wife, Bob and Ethel of Hurst, Texas; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Harold, Lester and Ross.
