Ethel S. Carey, 87, of Sioux City died Monday, May 12, 2003, at a Sioux City hospital following a brief illness.
Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with the Rev. Steven Brodersen officiating. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery, Kingsley, Iowa. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m. and a vigil service at 7 p.m., at Nelson-Berger Morningside Chapel.
Mrs. Carey was born Dec. 20, 1915, in Kingsley, Iowa, the daughter of William D. and Sarah E. (Madden) McNamara. She had lived in Sioux City since 1939.
She married Wilfred J. Carey on June 5, 1946, in Sioux City. She was employed as a waitress for various Sioux City restaurants. Mr. Carey died May 21, 1992, in Sioux City.
She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Altar Society. She loved baking for her family and enjoyed flower gardening and camping.
Survivors include a son, Michael Carey of Sioux City; two daughters, Michelle Franco of South Sioux City, and Patti and her husband, Robert Baczwaski of Sioux City; two brothers, Elmer McNamara and his wife, Pat of South Sioux City, and Tom McNamara of Sergeant Bluff; nine grandchildren, Kimberly Oehlerking, Kelley Kosters, Kerchelle Franco, Kevin Franco, Keith Franco, Kirk Franco, John Baczwaski, Ben Baczwaski and Carey Baczwaski; and four great-grandchildren, Andrew Oehlerking, Alec Oehlerking, Kaden Kosters and Brenden Kosters.
She also was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Nellie Lewis; and three brothers, Raymond, Allen and James McNamara.
Pallbearers will be her grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers will be her great-grandchildren.
