MERRILL, Iowa -- Melvin A. June, 86, of Merrill died Thursday, Oct. 17, 2002, at Indian Hills Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Sioux City following a brief illness.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Monday at Assembly of God Church in Le Mars, Iowa, with the Rev. Dan Krause officiating. Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery, Merrill. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with the family present 4 to 6 p.m., at Feuerstein Funeral Home in Le Mars. Visitation will resume one hour prior to the service Monday at the church.

Melvin was born Jan. 7, 1916, in Merrill, the son of Frank and Ella (Swayne) June. He grew up and attended school in Merrill.

Melvin married Lillian Johnson on Jan. 29, 1939, in Milbank, S.D. Following their marriage, Melvin worked road construction with various contractors as a bulldozer and heavy equipment operator for many years. He was later employed by the Plymouth County Secondary Roads Division as a foreman until his retirement.

Survivors include his wife, Lillian of Merrill; seven children, Allen June and his wife, Shirley of Las Vegas, Nev., Kenneth June of Merrill, Ron June of Merrill, and his special friend, Donna Hoffman of Le Mars, Iowa, Darlene Pieper and her husband, Dennis of Sioux Center, Sharon Dorhout of Lone Tree, Iowa, Rodney June and his wife, Teresa of Ireton, Iowa, and Denis June and his wife, Rose of Hubbard, Iowa; 21 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Ruth in infancy, Verda Schultz, Freda Clark and Evelyn Carlock; and four brothers, Stanley, Dwight, Art and Wallace June.
