Wilmer D. June, 74, of Sioux City died Monday, Aug. 18, 2003, at a Sioux City hospital.
Services will be 10 a.m. Friday at Cathedral of the Epiphany, with the Very Rev. Paul-Louis Arts, rector of the Cathedral of the Epiphany, and the Rev. Anthony Open, pastor of Mother Theresa Catholic Church in Dakota Dunes, officiating. The body will be cremated following the service Friday. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be 1 to 9 p.m. today, with the family present 6:30 to 8:30 p.m., a parish vigil service at 7 p.m. and a rosary at 7:45 p.m., all at Larkin Northside Funeral Home.
Wilmer was born July 23, 1929, in Kingsley, Iowa, the son of Stanley and Ruth (Kermnitz) June. He was raised in Merrill, Iowa and graduated from Merrill High School.
He moved to Sioux City in 1950, when he married Mary Catherine Ryder in February 1950. He worked for the United States Postal Service, where he served as a clerk and as a supervisor. He also was the acting Post Master in Morris and Salix, Iowa. After he retired from the post office, he worked part-time at Louie's Villa Inn and Prince's Tap. He also worked at the Roaring 20s for a brief time.
He was a member of the American Association of Retired Persons. He played in the Riverside Cribbage league on Zat's Cribbage team.
He is survived by his wife of Sioux City; two daughters, Kathleen "Cathy" of Sioux City and Mary Frances "Francy" of North Sioux City; two grandchildren, Katie and Ben; a brother and his wife, Marlow and Janice June; and four sisters and their husbands, Donna and Merlin Bock, Doris and Ken Muyskens, Beverly and Ray Behrens and LaVon and Jack Holton.
