LOIS JEAN AHLERS

LE MARS, Iowa – Mrs. William (Lois Jean) Ahlers, 68, of Rochester, Minn., formerly of LeMars, died Thursday, July 13, 1995, in Rochester of complications with diabetes.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. on Monday at St. John’s American Lutheran Church in LeMars with the Rev. David Kramer officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in LeMars. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with the family present 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. and a 7 p.m. prayer service, at the Feuerstein Funeral Home in LeMars.

Mrs. Ahlers was born Oct. 16, 1926, in Fredonia Township near Oyens, Iowa, the daughter of Nis and Elizabeth (Moser) Mortensen. She grew up in the LeMars area and graduated from LeMars Central High School in 1944. She moved to LeMars with her parents in 1952, and worked as a stenographer at the Plymouth County Clerk of Court’s office from 1944 to 1958. She married William Ahlers Oct. 17, 1959, in Sioux City. The couple made their home in LeMars. Mrs. Ahlers worked in the county social welfare department from 1959 to 1960, and from 1961 to 1983 was a full-time homemaker. Mr. Ahlers died Nov. 22, 1983, and in 1987 Mrs. Ahlers moved to the Charter House Retirement Center in Rochester, Minn.

Mrs. Ahlers was a member of the Zumbro Lutheran Church in Rochester, and a past member of St. John’s American Lutheran Church in LeMars.

Survivors include two daughters, Carole and her husband, David Joyce, of Rochester, and Beth Ann Ahlers of St. Cloud, Minn.; three grandsons, Brian, Peter, and Eric Joyce; a brother-in-law, Lawrence and his wife Ev Leafstedt of Alcester, S.D.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Kenneth, in infancy; and two sisters, Mrs. Melvin (Fern) Bouma and Mrs. Lawrence (Joyce) Leafstedt.
