ANGELA C. AHLERS

REMSEN, Iowa – Angela C. Ahlers, 89, of Remsen died Sunday, Aug. 12, 2001, at her residence.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Remsen, with the Revs. Thomas J. Hart and Donald Slaven officiating, assisted by Deacon Raphael Portz. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. Wednesday, with a parish rosary at 3 p.m. and a vigil service at 7:30 p.m. at Fisch Funeral Home in Remsen.

Mrs. Ahlers was born April 23, 1912, in rural Neola, Iowa, the daughter of Patrick and Mary (McEvoy) Buckley. She moved with her family to South Dakota, where she attended rural school in the Centerville, Wakonda and Yankton areas. She later moved with her family to a farm near Struble, Iowa.

She married Andrew Ahlers on June 19, 1934, in Struble. The couple made their home near Remsen, where they farmed until 1954, when they moved into Remsen. Her husband died June 28, 1982.

She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and enjoyed her computer and politics.

Survivors include four daughters and their husbands, Joan and Orville Portz of Remsen, Mary Jean and Gerald Portz and Delores and Raphael Portz, all of Sheldon, Iowa, and Janiece and Charles Bohlke of LeMars, Iowa; a son-in-law, Michael Lovely of Sioux Falls, S.D.; 19 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by three daughters, Carol Ann and Lois Ahlers in infancy, and Patricia Lovely; a great-granddaughter; two brothers, James and John Buckley; and six sisters, Anna Nipp, Helen Slowey, Elizabeth Frey, Mary Ford, Kathryn Buckley and Julia Buckley.
