PLUEGER, JEFFERS, BURWELL

Lucille K. Plueger, 89, of Le Mars, and formerly of Brunsville, died Monday, Feb. 2, 2004, at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars.

Lucille Katherine Plueger was born Jan. 29, 1915, on a farm north of Ruble, the daughter of Frank and Maggie (Burwell) Jeffers. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Brunsville. Lucille attended school in Ruble until the eighth grade and continued her education at Akron.

On July 16, 1931, Lucille and Charles Louis Plueger were united in marriage at a Methodist parsonage in Elk Point, S.D. Lucille and Charles lived near Akron and Chatsworth, before moving to Brunsville in June 1942. Lucille worked as a custodian at the Brunsville Independent School. When the school closed, she transferred to Kluckhohn Elementary in Le Mars and worked there for 18 years.

Lucille was an active member of St. Peter Lutheran Church. She was superintendent of Sunday school for 22 years, held every office in Ladies' Aid and Women of the ELCA, and numerous other positions. She enjoyed crocheting, quilting, card playing, and was a member of the Four Seasons Garden Club for many years.

She will be lovingly remembered by her two daughters Peggy Wilken and her husband, Elmer, of Brunsville, and Janice Smith and her husband, Tom, of Weldon, Calif.; three sons, Larry Plueger and his wife, Betty, of Le Mars, Gerald Plueger of Burbank, Calif., and Dale Plueger of Glendale, Calif.; eight grandchildren, Renee Clark, Rick Plueger, Ken Dyer, D.J. Dyer, Alan Wilken, Keith Wilken, Barry Wilken and Matthew Plueger; 15 great-grandchildren; a sister, Evelyn Thietje of Yakima, Wash.; a sister-in-law, Kathryn Jeffers of Edgewater, Colo.; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Charles; a great-granddaughter, Christine Michelle; three brothers, Lambert, Walter and Daryl Jeffers; and two sisters Pearl Miller and Lillian Crow.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Brunsville. The Rev. Daniel Stegen and the Rev. Jerry Crow will officiate. Burial will follow at St. Peter Cemetery in Brunsville. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. Friday at the Mauer-Johnson Funeral Home in Le Mars. The family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. There will also be one hour of visitation at the church prior to the funeral on Saturday.
