Esther Van De Water, 82, of Le Mars, died Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2004, at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City.

The former Esther Pauline Ludwigs was born May 25, 1921, at Craig, the daughter of Henry J. and Pauline (Schilling) Ludwigs. She graduated from Ireton High School in 1939. Following high school, Esther attended NBT Business College in Sioux City. Esther was united in marriage to Lloyd Van De Water on June 26, 1944 at Craig. Esther and Lloyd lived in Craig until moving to Le Mars in 1967.

Esther worked in food service at Le Mars Community Schools and Floyd Valley Hospital. She also worked for Pamida for many years until her retirement in 1984. For several years she did house cleaning and ironing for several families in the community.

Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Carol and Norm Siders of Albuquerque, N.M.; two sons and daughters-in-law, Chuck and Linda Van De Water of Le Mars and Paul and Kathy Van De Water of Lincoln, Neb.; seven grandchildren, Todd Siders and his wife, Christy, of Boise, Idaho, Rick Siders and his wife, Pam, of Sioux City, Kate Applegate and her husband, Jason, of Albuquerque, N.M., Mikaela and Maren Van De Water of Houston, Texas, Molly and Adam Van De Water of Lincoln, Neb.; five great-grandchildren, Trey, Reid, and Sage Siders of Boise, Idaho, Cole and Carlie Siders of Sioux City; two sisters-in-law, Shirley Ludwigs and Bernice Stewart of Sioux City; and three nieces and two nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Lloyd in 1995, and a brother, Vernon Ludwigs.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. John's Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A. with the Rev. Gary Landsness officiating. Burial will be 4 p.m. Saturday at St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Craig. Visitations will be after 3 p.m. today (Friday) at the Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars with the family present after 6 p.m. to greet friends, followed by a prayer service at 7 p.m.

Pallbearers will be Todd Siders, Rick Siders, Adam Van De Water, Jeff Roder, Norm Nielsen, and Jon Meredith.
