AKRON, Iowa -- Darlene Helen Lucken, 81, of Akron died Monday, Dec. 15, 2003, at Akron City Convalescent Care Center.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday at Plymouth Presbyterian Church in rural Brunsville, Iowa, with the Rev. Randall Knuth officiating. Burial will be in Plymouth Presbyterian Cemetery. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 5 to 7 p.m., at Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron.

Darlene Lucken was born Jan. 3, 1922, on a farm north of Merrill, Iowa, the daughter of John and Ruth (Dean) Robertson. She graduated from Hawarden (Iowa) High School in 1939.

She married Donald "Bud" Lucken on March 17, 1943, in South Sioux City. He preceded her in death on April 30, 2003. The couple farmed 11 miles southeast of Akron for more than 40 years. She taught at a Plymouth County country school for three years. Later, she was employed as a nurse's aid at Floyd Valley Hospital in Le Mars, Iowa, for 15 years.

She was a member of Plymouth Presbyterian Church, where she served as a Sunday School superintendent, a church elder, taught Bible School and was a member of the United Presbyterian Women. She was a 58-year member of the American Legion Auxiliary, the Farm Bureau and after retiring in 1984, served as a peer group counselor.

She is survived by two daughters, Fayann Ridgley of Copperas Cove, Texas, and Wendy and her husband, William Wiebold, of Columbia, Mo.; a brother and his wife, Calvin and Derith Robertson of Akron; a sister-in-law, Opal Robertson of Akron; a brother-in-law, Ronald "Skip" Lucken of Naples, Fla.; four grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband; a son, Mark; her parents; a son-in-law, Dr. Charles David Ridgley Jr.; a brother, Jay Robertson; a sister, Marjorie Robertson; and two infant siblings.
