LE MARS, Iowa -- Ruth L. Lubben, 78, of Le Mars died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002, at Plymouth Manor Care Center in Le Mars.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. John's Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A., with the Rev. Gary Landsness officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Cemetery, Le Mars. Visitation will be after 2 p.m. today, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Carlsen Funeral Home in Le Mars.

Ruth L. Cooper was born March 9, 1923, in Le Mars, to J. Earl and Martha (Lehrman) Cooper. She was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Le Mars. She graduated from Le Mars Central High School in 1941. While in high school, Ruth enjoyed creating artwork for the "Bark" yearbook. Following high school, she worked for Youngberg Studio in Sioux City. While at Youngberg's, she learned how to tint and color photographs.

Ruth was united in marriage to Henry "Bud" Lubben on May 27, 1944, in Alexandria. La. The couple made their home in Le Mars, where she continued to color and tint photographs in her home. From 1966 to 1974, she worked for VanderMeer Bakery in Le Mars. Bud passed away on Nov. 5, 1987. Ruth made her home at the Plymouth Manor Care Center since January 1999. While living at Plymouth Manor, she enjoyed drawing for the staff and residents.

Ruth was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church, where she had been a Sunday School teacher, a member of W.E.L.C.A., sang in the choir and a member of the Singspiriation group. She enjoyed needlepoint, collecting china dolls and making custom outfits for her dolls.

Survivors include a daughter and her husband, Diane and LeRoy Langstraat of Le Mars; a son and his wife, James and Mary Lubben of Le Mars; four grandchildren, Jim Langstraat and his wife, Deb, Jeff Langstraat, Dan Lubben and Misty Lubben; three great-grandchildren, Manny and Abbey Langstraat and Malayna Hanks; and a sister and her husband, Joyce and Dr. Donald Whittlesey of Bella Vista, Ark.

In addition to her husband, she was also preceded in death by her parents and a nephew, Crag Whittlesey.

Pallbearers will be Jim, Jeff, Manny and Deb Langstraat, Dan Lubben and Kelly Hanks.
