AKRON, Iowa -- Melvin J. Lubben, 73, of Akron died Monday, Jan. 20, 2003, at his residence.

Services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Akron, with the Rev. Jerry Crow officiating. Burial will be in Grant Township Cemetery, rural Le Mars, Iowa. Visitation will be 2 to 8 p.m. today, with the family present 6 to 8 p.m., at Schroeder Funeral Home in Akron.

Melvin J. Lubben was born Dec. 16, 1929, in Grant Township, Iowa, the son of John and Louise (Ludwigs) Lubben. He was baptized and confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church in Grant Township. He was raised on a farm and graduated from Le Mars (Iowa) Central High School in 1948. He worked for Palmer Fruit Co. and Apar Brokerage in Sioux City.

He married Lois Zink on June 30, 1957, in Le Mars, Iowa. He was an insurance representative for Lutheran Brotherhood for several years. In his free time, he loved golf, bowling and playing cards. He served in the U.S. Naval Reserves from 1954 to 1958.

Survivors include two sons, Steve Lubben of Sioux Falls, S.D., and Mark Lubben of Sioux City; two sisters, Lucella DeYoung of Tustin, Calif., and Elnora Renken of Phoenix, Ariz.; four grandchildren; and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Marvin.

Pallbearers will be Ray Lubben, Erwin Renken, Earl Lubben, Dave Morin, Scott Lilly and Jim Small.
