AKRON, Iowa -- Louise D. Martin, 92, of Akron passed away Thursday, Oct. 28, 2004, at Akron Care Center.
Services will be 9 a.m. Monday at Immanuel Lutheran Church, E.L.C.A. in Akron, with the Rev. Glenn Lundahl officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery. Visitation will be after 4 p.m. today, with the family present after 6 p.m. and a prayer service at 7 p.m., at Carlsen Funeral Home-Schroeder Chapel in Akron.
Louise D. (Willer) Martin was born Jan. 30, 1912, on the Keystone Stock farm near Akron, the daughter of Hans and Cicilia (Heitman) Willer. She attended Breezy Hill country school in Westfield Township.
She married Marvin Martin on Jan. 15, 1947, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Akron. The couple farmed in South Dakota and later north of Akron. Marvin passed away unexpectedly on April 11, 1958. Following Marvin's passing, Louise moved to Akron. She worked for Thorson Drug and later for the Akron Hospital and Care Center. After retiring, Louise continued by volunteering her time at the care center. She loved to be around people, especially her nieces and nephews. She was always known for her happiness and smiling. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
Louise was a lifelong member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, where she was baptized and confirmed on Nov. 23, 1952. She was a member of the Women of the E.L.C.A. She was also a member of the Senior Center. She was a 46-year member of the American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed bowling, golfing and playing cards.
Survivors include her brother, Ted Willer, of Akron; a sister-in-law, Marie Willer, of Akron; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; five brothers, Henry, John, Edward, George and Julius; and two sisters, Lena and Ann.
Pallbearers will be Christopher Hedquist, Rolin Willer, George Buys, Martin Buys, Mark Lawrensen, Mike Willer, Mark Held, Darwin Lubben and Wayne Schlotfeldt. Honorary pallbearers will be members of the American Legion Auxiliary.
